IIM MK Meeting 9th June 2015 – Presenting yourself and your offer to prospective customers

A great meeting was held at the David Lloyd,  Milton Keynes on Tuesday, 9th June 2015.  The topic of the evening was ‘How to present yourself and your offer to others’.

Marianne Harris-Bridge  who has a background in marketing gave her views from a marketing perspective. She shared with us a number of tips on how to market yourself from an individual perspective. Her key tips for me where to ensure that your business card actually states on it what you do, remember to keep your website up to date, if you write a blog use what is going on in your personal life and relate it back to business, if you join an agency then make sure you go and meet them, if going for a role ask the recruiter what style of CV they require, ask for testimonials as soon as you have finished each assignment and include them in your application as it builds credibility.

Ian Watkins spoke with the experience of a procurement expert. He had extensive advice too but the main points for me were:- research the company properly even down to how to pronounce the company name, find out what makes the person you are going to sell to tick, look them up on LinkedIn but also google them, always check your technology before a key meeting/pitch and have a disaster recovery plan, ensure that you have relevant case studies to demonstrate your credibility and the key thing is when you close the meeting that you ask what the next steps are to demonstrate that you really do want the business.
